How Tracking Helps You Bond with Your Baby
If you’re wondering how to bond with an unborn baby, there’s several ways to connect. Out of all of them, tracking tops the list. Here’s why:
- Monitors Health.Tracking your baby helps you bond, but it serves another purpose too: It monitors their health. When you learn their patterns, you’ll have a better sense of whether something is off. This can prompt you to call the doctor, who can deny, confirm and/or treat the issue.
- Help Adjustment.Seeing how your baby is growing and changing can make the experience feel more real. It’s possible this could help you adjust better after labor.
- Help Partner Bond. There’s many ideas on this list that your partner can join or help out with (ex. using a fetal doppler or making a heartbeat movie). For the partner that isn’t pregnant, pregnancy can feel even less real since nothing has changed for them yet. Using tracking can be a good way to connect with the baby before birth because they can see their growth in real-time.
- Help Baby be Securely Attached.Attachment style refers to how healthy a person bonds with other people. Research has shown that a parent’s level of sensitivity goes a long way towards whether their babies are securely attached. To help nurture your sensitivity, it can help to take time during pregnancy to connect with your fetus.

Bond with Baby in the Womb Using BabyDoppler
The easiest way to bond with your baby in the womb is by downloading the BabyDoppler app.
We give users several ways to track their baby’s health:
- Kick Counter
- Fetal Heartbeat Recorder
- Share Heartbeats
Before you get started, you’ll need a fetal doppler. These are devices that allow you to hear your baby’s heartbeat, similar to an ultrasound. You can also see the fetal heart rate displayed on the screen. They fit into the palm of your hand and are easy to use once you learn to find the heartbeat.
When you have your device, make your BabyDoppler account on the app. Enter your email and choose a password.
Next, make a baby profile. You’ll enter details like your baby’s due date, gender and name. This will let the app know which stage of growth your baby is going through each week. Based on this data, you’ll receive updates on how big your fetus is and what’s currently developing. You’ll also get a heads-up on any important pregnancy milestones, like when you can expect movement to start.
Now that you have your fetal doppler and you’ve made a baby profile, you can begin bonding and tracking.
Count Kicks
If you’re wondering how to bond with an unborn baby, you can use our app to count kicks.
Tracking movement helps you discern patterns and know when something is wrong. It also helps you connect with your baby. Even though you feel the movements, you’ll have a log of how they’re ramping up, getting her limbs ready for birth.
You should start counting kicks around 28 weeks. Although you’ll feel sensations earlier than that, they’ll follow less of a pattern, making it harder to track. When you’re in the home stretch of your journey, catching problems becomes increasingly important, especially if you have a high-risk pregnancy.
If you start counting around 28 weeks, you’re looking for 10 movements in 2 hours or less. This is the counting guideline recommended by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Movement will start earlier than 28 weeks. However, in the beginning, movements will be fewer and less pronounced, meaning you shouldn’t use this guideline in the early stages. You can repeat this once daily, or whenever you want some baby bonding time.
How to Count Kicks
- Tap “Kick Counter” at the bottom of the screen of the BabyDoppler app.
- Click start. Sit or lay down and relax as the timer runs.
- Press and hold the countdown notification to “Add 1 Kick” every time you feel any type of movement.
- When you’ve reached 10 kicks, tap “Save” and you’ll see how many kicks were counted in the amount of time. Alternatively, you can let the timer run for two hours to see how many kicks you can feel. However, make sure to pay attention to the expected 10 kicks in 2 hours.
Record Heartbeat
If you have a fetal doppler, you can also use the BabyDoppler app to record your baby’s heartbeat.
If you record the doppler each time, you’ll see a log of recordings in your profile. You can review these to reflect on how your baby’s heartbeat has changed over your journey. This can help you feel connected, knowing that your fetus is ready for birth.
Partners can also listen to the recordings, which can help give them the sense they’re a parent already. It’s also a great idea for people who can’t attend ultrasound appointments with you. Although nobody can be 100% prepared for children, this can help get them into the right mindset.
How to Record Fetal Heartbeat Using BabyDoppler App
- Tap “New Recording” at the top of the screen on the BabyDoppler app.
- Use your fetal doppler to detect a heartbeat.
- Tap “Record” when you detect the heartbeat.
- To save the recording, tap “submit.” To try again, click “re-record.”
Make Heartbeat Video
Another way to feel connected to your baby is by making a baby heartbeat movie. This is a great way to collect and string together your memories so far. Seeing it all in one video can make you and your partner feel closer to your baby.
To make a heartbeat video, first select a video editing app or computer editing program to use. Then, collect all the media you’ll use for it:
- Fetal heartbeat recording
- Sonogram photos
- Maternity photos
- Video messages from mom and dad to baby
- Text you want to add (ex. baby’s name, gender, due date, etc.)
- Background music for when fetal heartbeat recording isn’t playing

- Share it on social media or keep it private by sending over email.
