8 Fertility Smoothie Recipes
We know our diets play a huge role in how we look and feel, but it also affects our fertility. Getting the required vitamins and minerals every day is a must if you’re having trouble conceiving. An easy way to ensure you’re getting healthy foods is to blend them into a smoothie.
In this guide, we will show you how to make your own fertility smoothie and give you 8 recipes to get started.
Fertility Smoothie Ingredients
Fertility smoothies are a great way to get all of the baby-making vitamins, minerals and antioxidants into one glass. Instead of eating various foods, you can blend them together in a form that’s quick, convenient and easy to digest. One of the best things about smoothies is that you can usually make them with whatever ingredients you have in your home. If you have produce that’s about to go bad, you can incorporate it into the beverage instead of wasting it. However, when you’re making a smoothie to boost fertility, you’ll want to be a little more conscious of the ingredients to make sure you’re getting the required nutrients.
You can make your own fertility smoothie by adding in a combination of any of the below ingredients. You’ll need fruits or veggies, a liquid, a protein and a source of healthy fat.
Produce
When you contemplate making a smoothie, it’s likely that the first thing you check your fridge for is fruits and vegetables. Fresh or frozen fruits and veggies are a great source of vitamins, minerals and fiber — and the options are endless.
Protein
If you plan on having the smoothie as a snack, you may choose to skip adding a protein. However, if you want your smoothie to act as a meal replacement, perhaps for breakfast, you’ll need a source of protein to keep you full and energized. The easiest way to add protein to a fertility smoothie is with protein powder. Depending on your preferences, you have many options: Whey, casein and egg. If you don’t consume milk or animal products, you can use protein powders made from soy, hemp or peas. If you can’t find protein powders in your regular grocery store, natural health food stores, nutrition stores and online shops have a lot of variety.
You can also add protein by incorporating nut and seed butters or spirulina.
Omega 3s and Healthy Fats
When you’re trying to conceive, you may try to cut out fat in an effort to get healthy. However, cutting out the good fats could be counterproductive. According to a 1993 study, very athletic women who had lower levels of body fat were less likely to ovulate. Since ovulation needs to occur for pregnancy to happen, this decreases a woman’s fertility. Omega 3 essential fatty acids also help to regulate hormones, increase cervical mucous and normalize your cycle (so you can accurately predict your fertility window).
You have a couple of options when it comes to adding Omega 3s and healthy fats to your smoothie. You can add a dairy product such as milk, kefir or yogurt. If you’re dairy-free, try full-fat coconut milk. Flax, chia, pumpkin and hemp seeds are also a good source of Omega 3s. If you’re making a green smoothie, add avocado, kale or spinach. Since leafy greens contain ALA, a less powerful form of omega-3, make sure to switch up your omega-3 source from time to time.
Liquid
To blend that smoothie together, you will need some form of liquid. This can include a juice, such as orange juice, milk, almond milk, coconut milk or coconut water. You’ll need about 1 cup to achieve the right consistency.
Fertility Smoothie Recipes
The above ingredients can be combined to create a fertility smoothie; however, sometimes it’s better to follow a recipe to ensure you’re getting the vitamins and minerals most beneficial for conception.
Chinese Medicine Approved Fertility Smoothie
This fertility smoothie requires you to steam your greens since they are more difficult to digest raw. Superfoods like spirulina and wheatgrass also give this meal replacement an extra punch.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup lightly steamed greens
- 1/2 cup berries (frozen is okay)
- 1 scoop protein powder
- 1 tbsp. walnut oil
- 1 scoop wheatgrass powder
- 1 tsp. spirulina
- 1.5 cup coconut milk
Â
Directions
- Stream your greens before adding them to a blender
- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth
